Accommodations & Transportation: CHORAL SCHOLARS and CONDUCTORS
The resident choir (Choral Scholars on the 19 day program) and Conducting Scholars are housed in apartments through the city center of Aix-en-Provence, within walking distance to the cathedral where all rehearsals take place. The apartments are modest but charming, located above the storefronts of the old city, typically housing 4 to 6 participants. To contain costs, the program fees are calculated on rooming “choir tour” style, which will probably mean sharing a double bed, though you have the option to pay the single supplement (starting at $299) if you’d prefer to have your own bed, or for a private room (starting at $499).
There are numerous possibilities for finding food, whether you prefer to find fresh produce at a nearby street market, or pick up a panini or a baguette for a light meal. Most participants will tell you that dining with other singers from various stages of their careers is a highlight of the program. And since Aix is a university town, there is always plenty of nightlife for those who truly wish to fuul embrace the joie de vivre!
Airfare is NOT included in the symposium pricing package, though if you book early, there are excellent fares from the metropolitan NYC area to Paris around $700 RT! (Check out the new discount carrier, PRIMERA AIRLINES, or check www.flights.google.com for great fares from any location.) You can take a train directly for the Paris airport (CDG) to Aix-en-Provence for about $75.00 each way. It’s also possible to fly directly to Marseille via British Airways, Lufthansa, and several other Europe based airlines, but that typically costs significantly more. Why not fly in to Paris, then extend your stay to Italy or Barcelona after the symposium – each a short train ride away!
In the coming weeks, we’ll post a step-by-step guide to booking airfare and train tickets to help you plan a seamless travel experience.
Since the Festival Chorus Program is only eight days, seven nights, you will have a choice of accommodations in the Saint Christophe Hotel or the Adagio Aparthotel near the center of town. While the Saint Christophe is a bit nice, the Aparthotel provides a bit more living space with a basic kitchenette in case you want to prepare your own meals. Each is about a 10-minute walk from the rehearsal facilities.
Prices range from $1199 – $1799 for your six-night stay, based on single or double occupancy. In most cases, we should be able to provide rooms with two single beds for those who wish to share accommodations. You will, however, need to find your own roommate. A great opportunity to invite a good friend to France!
Airfare is not included in the Festival Chorus Package.
